3D was founded in Columbus, Ohio in 1980 where it provides U.S. based clients with professional design services. Such services include architecture, engineering and project management. Its employees frequently collaborate on projects.

3D/Group, Inc. is completing renovation of it's offices, located at 266 North Fourth Street, in downtown Columbus. Once the site was selected, the intent was to change the typical office lay-out to a more alternative and flexible scheme. The layout would be 80% open plan and only 20% enclosed office. But putting everyone where they needed to be became a task in itself, because the concrete columns in this 1920’s building are distributed in a somewhat irregular and tight configuration. The original "open-office" plan was to group the staff into "project teams". With input from our OFFI-source division, the layout changed to include interchangeable cubicles and wall panels. Each station shares a center peninsula table so that more "teaming" and coordination could be on-going on each project on a daily basis.

Glass walls will allow natural light to penetrate the private interior offices. The second floor employee lunchroom has a large continuous vaulted skylight. There is also a walk-out balcony for those that desire to dine outside on nice days.
